HOW WE DO THE RESEARCH: OBSERVATION SYSTEMS AND DATA AND NUMERICAL MODEL MANAGEMENT

Technological innovation has contributed to the development of multi-platform marine and coastal observation systems which are increasingly more sophisticated. ICTS SOCIB, which is a pioneering institution in operational oceanography, has a multi-platform observation system (buoys, coastal stations, satellites, a research vessel, high frequency radars, stand-alone underwater gliders and sea turtles equipped with sensors, etc) which it uses to obtain data in real time, which is open data for researchers, managers and society in general.

Once they have been processed and verified, MEDCLIC researchers use these data to prepare and validate physical and biological models, such as the WMOP oceanic forecasting model.
